Getting the right crash test lighting technology requires controllability, adaptability and reproducibility of extremely high-powered light.

Crash test photo and video recordings are one, if not the central elements, accompanying the actual test and measuring process. System-related advantages over classic halogen, and gas discharge lights make high-performance LED lights such as the M=LIGHT from MESSRING the equipment of choice for modern crash systems. Communication infrastructure M=SYNC

Bright lighting is the only way to deal with the challenges posed by the extremely short camera shutter times involved in high-speed recordings. In principle, the better the illumination, the better the camera results will be. M=LIGHT LEDs provide a reliably high luminous flux of 75,000 lm in ‘steady mode’, delivering daylight lighting with excellent color reproduction. In ‘flash mode’, with up to 25,000 flashes per second, the luminous flux increases up to 150,000 lm to clearly illuminate the test object while consuming the exact same amount of energy. In addition to simply increasing the light output, the microsecond-accurate synchronization of lamp flashes and camera shutter delivers light exactly when it is needed. This ensures consistent image exposure without visible fluctuations, even at high image frequencies. Synchronization of this level is effortless with either the M=LIGHT Connection Set for smaller applications or M=SYNC for larger systems with multiple cameras and lamp units. Timing and trigger control throughout the digital, high-frequency M=SYNC communication infrastructure, reliably and accurately transmits data packets via a fiberglass cable and makes the networking of cameras and lighting units simple and easy.

Flexible in use

M=LIGHT LEDs also offer an extremely high light output, low 1,150W power consumption, and on-point synchronization with highly flexible usability. A total of four reflection angles (23°, 37°, 56°, 71°) can be used with various lens systems to adapt the lamps to any system setup. Regardless of the test being performed – car-to-car tests with large lamp groups on moving light frames, or airbag deployment tests with a small test setup – the ability to build modular connections using a daisy-chain process ensures that the optimal illuminance for video recordings can always be achieved. The lamps’ durable design, in combination with the high 50,000-hour LED service life, means that maintenance costs are low and predictable. Such factors also ensure consistent image quality and reproducibility over an extended time.
