MESSRING Upgrades CATC Crash Test Facility for the Future

MESSRING has successfully completed a comprehensive upgrade of an existing crash test facility at the Changchun Automotive Test Center (CATC). The project centered around the delivery of a complete propulsion system, including motor, drive unit, tensioning station, towing rope, control cabinets, and a deflection station. Additionally, spare parts for the winch and a second towing rope and two laser speed traps were supplied.

Safety-critical systems were also modernized. Two vehicle brakes were provided, while all emergency stop and warning components were completely renewed.

A key challenge of the project was the integration of the new system into the existing infrastructure. The track and clamping trolley were not supplied by MESSRING, and the use of a clamping trolley required an endless rope system. The necessary rope splicing was carried out on-site in cooperation with a specialized partner from Germany.

With support from our Chinese subsidiary, three mobile barriers (ECE R34, ECE R95, RCAR, FMVSS 214 & 301R), a flying floor, and a pole for side impact tests were also delivered.

The facility is now equipped for the future with MESSRING’s latest software, service level agreement, and availability of spare parts. The primary motivation for the upgrade was the outdated nature of the previous system — with many components no longer available and no dedicated contacts for support.

MESSRING thanks CATC for the trust placed in us and is proud to contribute once again to the advancement of vehicle safety in China.
